Choosing a 4-camera or 8-camera CCTV system in South Africa starts with a simple question: how many separate areas do you need to see clearly? Four cameras can cover a compact layout. Eight cameras let you plan more individual views across a larger home or business.
Here we compare two available AUREY wired DVR kits with 500GB hard drives. This keeps the comparison focused on complete camera packages and coverage, rather than comparing a recorder-only price with a full kit.

Start with a list of areas, then count cameras
Write down the views that matter before choosing a kit. An entrance, driveway, side passage and back yard make a possible four-camera plan for a home. A shop may instead prioritise its entrance, till area, sales floor and stockroom access.
If your list also includes a rear gate, separate garage approach, loading area and another side passage, eight cameras may suit the layout better. Walk the site and mark each proposed view. A single camera cannot automatically provide useful detail in every direction, even when it shows a large area.
When to choose a four-camera system

The AUREY T4 with 500GB HDD suits a site where four planned positions cover the main priorities. Its checked kit price is R1,300, so it leaves more of the budget for mounting, cable routing and installation materials than the eight-camera option.
Choose it when the four views meet your needs now and you do not already expect to add several cameras. You can compare alternative connection types in our four-camera wired, PoE and WiFi buying guide.
When to choose an eight-camera system

The AUREY HYS-T14 with 500GB HDD suits a site that benefits from more individual views. At the checked price of R2,000, the kit costs R700 more than the T4 and includes four additional cameras. This is a package-price comparison; the camera models differ, and installation costs depend on your site.
Eight cameras also mean more positions to mount and more cable routes to plan. Read the eight-camera CCTV guide for hard-drive choices and installation planning.
Do both systems need internet?
These kits use local hard-drive recording. Internet access is needed for remote viewing away from the property; a remote app does not replace the recorder's storage or its power supply. Test local recording and playback as part of setup, then configure remote access.
Does the same 500GB drive mean the same recording time?
No fixed retention period follows from drive capacity alone. More recording streams can use more storage, and settings, compression, motion and recording schedules affect how long footage is retained. If you need a particular number of days, check storage requirements for the actual configuration.
Can a four-channel recorder become an eight-camera system?
Do not assume that a four-channel recorder can accept eight cameras. Both featured kits fill their stated channel capacity when every supplied camera is connected. If expansion is a priority, confirm a larger compatible recorder before purchase. For recorder-only options, see our Hikvision DVR channel guide; camera and format compatibility still need checking.
