Hikvision 2.8mm vs 3.6mm Lenses: Which View Do You Need?

Hikvision DS-2CE10DF0T-LFS camera available with 2.8mm and 3.6mm lenses

For the same camera model, a 2.8mm lens normally gives a wider view than a 3.6mm lens. The wider view can help cover more of a nearby area; the narrower view can frame a more focused section of the scene. Choose around the width and distance of the area you want to watch.

Lens size is not the same as megapixel resolution. It changes the framing of the scene. The actual field of view also depends on the camera, so compare specifications for the exact model rather than assuming every 2.8mm camera sees the same angle.

A specific example: DS-2CE10DF0T-LFS

Hikvision's datasheet gives the following horizontal viewing angles for the DS-2CE10DF0T-LFS. Both lens options had available stock at AUREY when checked on 22 October 2026.

Lens option Horizontal field of view Listed camera price
DS-2CE10DF0T-LFS, 2.8mm 105° R550
DS-2CE10DF0T-LFS, 3.6mm 84° R505

These angles apply to this particular model. The prices refer to individual camera variants, with current availability and checkout charges shown through the product links.

When to consider 2.8mm

Start by comparing 2.8mm for a nearby entrance, a broad room or a wider section of yard. If the camera is close to the area you want to cover, a wider view may help include more of the scene without moving the camera further away.

Check that important subjects are still large enough in the image. Including a wider area spreads the available image detail across more of the scene.

When to consider 3.6mm

Compare 3.6mm when you want to frame a narrower entrance, a more focused section of a passageway or a particular part of a yard. With the same camera model and mounting position, the narrower field of view can make the chosen part of the scene occupy more of the image.

This does not create an automatic face-identification or number-plate-reading guarantee. Distance, movement, lighting, image settings and mounting angle all affect useful detail.

Four measurements to share before buying

  1. Scene width: how wide is the gate, doorway or area you need in the picture?
  2. Distance: how far is that area from the planned camera position?
  3. Mounting height: will the camera look across the scene or steeply down at it?
  4. Lighting: what lights, headlights or dark areas will affect the view at night?

A photo of the location with approximate measurements can help AUREY discuss the lens choice with you. A broad overview and a close view of a doorway may call for different camera positions.

Other available lens choices

The DS-2CE16D0T-EXIPF 2.8mm is another stocked analogue option. Its lens should be assessed using that model's own specifications. For a broader product comparison, read our Hikvision camera buying guide.

Can I change from 2.8mm to 3.6mm in the app?

These are fixed-lens hardware variants. An app setting does not change the physical focal length. Select the intended lens when ordering; digital enlargement of a picture is a different function.

For analogue cameras, also match the video output and recording requirements to your DVR. Our Hikvision DVR comparison explains the main recorder checks.
